A New Tournament Format - what is a Quad?
We're hosting our first ever quad chesstournament at Knights of Éanna this weekend - enter here. Before we get started we've put together an explainer on what exactly a Quad Tournament is...
A Proven Format
Quad tournaments are a well-established and popular format in countries like France and Germany.
Players are grouped in fours based on similar rating or playing strength, creating balanced, competitive matchups within each group.
Simple To Enter
This is a fully individual event, not a team tournament.
You don’t need to find or register with other players.
Just sign up on your own on the ICU event page.
Make sure to check in on site on the day, as groups are formed after check-in.
Serious Chess, Proper Ratings
In a quad, each player faces the other three players in their group in classical time-control games.
All games are FIDE classical rated, making every round meaningful and ideal for players who want real competitive experience.
Perfect For Busy Schedules
Quads are run as one-day events, making them ideal for players with work or study commitments.
You get three high-quality classical games in a single day, without needing to give up an entire weekend.
