Inclusivity & Accessibility

We want everyone to feel welcome at our chess club. Whether you're new to the game, returning after a break or an experienced player. Our goal is to create a friendly, supportive environment where every member can participate comfortably and confidently.

We've tried to answer any questions you may have, but please get in touch if you need any particular accommodations.

Inclusivity

We foster an inclusive environment for all players. We firmly believe that chess is for everyone and actively embrace diversity and inclusiveness in everything we do.

Female Participation

We are proud to have one of the largest memberships of women and girls in Ireland, with around 20 female members. Our top league team in the Armstrong division currently includes three women among its eight players. We also make a point of organising coaching sessions with women coaches to support and inspire players at all levels.

Physical Accessibility

Our venue is wheelchair-accessible, including step-free entry. Accessible toilets are available on site. If you need a particular setup just let us know by getting in touch.

Sensory Considerations

Our club nights are often high-energy and lively, with music playing, members chatting between games and multiple games happening simultaneously. We understand that for some players, this sensory environment can be overwhelming. Knights of Éanna is a judgement-free space, and everyone is welcome, no matter what accommodations they may require. We provide a quieter room away from the main area for those who need a calmer environment, and you are welcome to use noise-cancelling headphones or any other tools that help make your experience more comfortable.

Social Comfort

We know that joining a new club can feel intimidating, but at Knights of Éanna we work hard to make the environment relaxed, friendly, and welcoming. We are always happy for new people to join, no matter who you are or your level. Even complete beginners are fully accommodated.

Let us know you’re planning to come by getting in touch, and we’ll make sure you feel at ease.

You’ll never be expected to play at a level you’re uncomfortable with, and you’re welcome to observe games before joining in. You can also bring a support person or friend, and we’re always happy to help you find someone to share a game.

Skill Levels

Beginners are absolutely welcome - no experience needed. We'll pair new players with friendly partners. Mistakes are normal and expected, this is a judgment-free club!

Financial Accessibility

No one should miss out on chess for financial reasons. If membership fees or other costs are a barrier, talk to us so we can help. We provide chess sets and clocks on club nights so there is no need to bring anything.
